Happy 2025 to all my fellow Eden Islanders!

“I am proud and honored to serve as your HOA President this year. I look forward to doing all I can to maintain the beauty of our neighborhood, enrich our sense of community and keep our streets and families safe. I hope that you will join me in these objectives.

I am sure every one of you has an “Eden Isles” story – about why you came here to live – and why you stay. Here is mine:

Years ago, we rented a timeshare located on Northshore Circle, located between Hwy 11 and “Rats Nest Road”. I don’t know if it was the wildlife that called the adjoining pond “home” or the “Please don’t feed the gators” sign that welcomed us. But I fell in love with the area. We became owners at the little resort and spent quite a few years visiting here. We loved driving through Eden Isles and envied the residents that lived “on vacation” every day of the year.

My whole life I found myself living in States in alphabetical order (Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and  Oklahoma) following our careers. But in retirement, for the first time in our lives, the choice was ours. My husband John and I rented a condo at The Anchorage for the Winter of 2013 and before the three months passed, we had chosen our retirement home, and we became “Eden Islanders”.

We came here not knowing a soul. But within a week’s time we had spent more time visiting with our neighbors than we ever had in any of those other States. My neighbors made sure we gained a sense of community by joining the HOA and took us under their wings at neighborhood events. And with an invitation from a neighbor we attended our very first Mardi Gras Ball.

You have taught me the “Seasons” of Louisiana, how to eat crawfish, “Go Cup” laws and how to pronounce street names. I don’t boat or fish but do get excited every time a boat passes or someone catches a fish in the canal. And catching crabs off my dock is fun, but even more so when a pelican or heron comes to help me.

We came here for the view. I stay because of you – the friends and neighbors of Eden Isles. Through the social events, serving on the HOA Board of Directors, rousing games of dominoes and just bringing in the garbage cans, every visit is precious. You may be a longtime resident. Or maybe you are new to the community, and we haven’t met, yet. In any case, I hope to see you at the next HOA meeting or social event – or just floating by in the canal.

My goals for this year cannot be met without your support. Won’t you become a proud Eden Isles HOA member? Not because you must, but because you share my desire that Eden Isles remains the place we are proud to call “home”.”

Deb Horrocks,
EIHOA President
